LIHU‘E — In an effort to strengthen the health of the community, the Kaua’i District Health Office and County of Kaua’i are hosting the islands sixth Tropic Care event in June.
Tropic Care is a mission of the armed forces Innovative Readiness Training Program focused on increasing troop preparedness, while strengthening communities.
Tropic Care is once again returning to the Garden Island to offer free health care. The eight-day event will run from June 13-20 and will provide complimentary physical exams, eye exams, eyeglass fabrication, dermatology services, dental exams, fillings and extractions for all Kauaians in need of these services. No ID or insurance required.
To further encourage and better assist the residents during this event, the Kauai Bus has also announced that they will be providing complementary bus services islandwide during Tropic Care week.
“We are excited to once again partner with the Kaua‘i District Health Office and the Innovative Readiness Training Mission-Department of Defense in bringing Tropic Care back to Kaua‘i this year,” said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami.
“During Tropic Care, the county will offer free Kaua‘i bus service and we encourage everyone to take advantage of this great opportunity to obtain healthcare services at no cost.”
Tropic Care services will be available at the following clinics from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All clinics are scheduled to close at noon on June 20.
• Kapa‘a Middle School (main clinic): June 13-20
• Waimea Canyon Middle School: June 13-15
• Kilauea Elementary School: June 18-20
Veterinary services (spay/neuter) will also be available for the first time through a partnership with the Kaua‘i Humane Society, on select days only. To sign your pet up for the event, visit https://kauaihumane.org/services/veterinary-services/.
The public is reminded that services will be on a first-come, first-served basis and participants are advised to expect long waiting periods. Participants are also asked to bring water, snacks, eyeglasses and a list of current prescriptions.
