NUKOLI‘I — Ho‘omalu Ke Kai, in partnership with the Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort, is inviting everyone to a Kaua‘i World Ocean Day event on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nukoli‘i Beach located adjacent to the Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
“Your involvement will truly make a real difference,” said Tim Leichliter, the president and director of operations for Ho‘malu Ke Kai. “We are looking forward to having you with us to show our ocean, and its incredible inhabitants some love one way or another.”
The event involves a community beach cleanup, music, and vendors offering exhibits and demonstrations on sustainability, craft vendors, a silent auction, prize giveaways and food options from the Outrigger KBR. Organizers are anticipating fun for the entire ‘ohana.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for vendors to share information about the group or business, musical groups and silent auction prize donors. These opportunities are available by registering online at www.hoomalukekai.com by June 5.
Proceeds from the silent auction are earmarked for the development of Kaua‘i’s first coral restoration nursery, and the Ho‘omalu Ke Kai ocean plastic recovery and upcycling program.
Ho‘omalu Ke Kai is a Kaua‘i grassroots nonprofit that focuses on ocean restoration and conservation.
“We are inspired to create meaningful change in our community and we hope to continue doing so for many more years to come,” Leichliter said.
“Since its beginning three years ago Ho‘omalu Ke Kai has been consistently practicing good stewardship towards the island’s coastlines through community beach cleanups, ocean plastic upcycling and Loko i‘a restoration projects.”
Earlier in the year, Ho‘omalu Ke Kai was awarded Kaua‘i’s first coral nursery permit, which will enable the group to grow and plant native coral species back onto the island’s reefs.
“Your support signifies hope and opportunity to keep Kaua‘i’s ocean ecosystem protected and preserved for generations to come,” Leichliter said. “Together, we can create a brighter future for our community.”
