MANA — Harvey Maeda was an award winner during the Pacific Missile Range Facility MWR Auto Skills Car Show that was held on May 11 at the naval base in Mana.
Maeda, of Kaua‘i Classic Cars, is also coordinating the Celebrate Father’s Day car show that will unfold on June 15 in the parking lots at Kukui Grove Center, where his award-winning 1931 Ford Model A 5-Window Coupe will be on exhibit along with other award winners from the Auto Skills Car Show.
The successful Fourth Morale, Wellness and Recreation Committee Auto Skills Car Show attracted about 600 people to the base to check out the 70 vehicles that were on exhibit for the public, who had an opportunity to talk to vehicle owners about their rides.
“Hot Rods! Antique Cars! Junior Dragsters! Custom Trucks! We had them all,” said Steve Swacker, the event organizer, and the MWR Auto Skills Center manager. “This was a wonderful team event that was possible because of the community participation. Thank you to the residents of Kaua‘i for sharing your fantastic custom rides with us, and congratulations to all who took part in this exciting event.”
Maeda and the Kaua‘i Classic Cars will partner with Kukui Grove Center to present the Father’s Day Celebration, which is also a fund (er, food) raiser for the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank. The celebration opens from 10 a.m., which is about the time the King’s Celebration parade ends, and runs through 2 p.m. in the parking lot on the Ross side of the shopping center.
