Marlene Duarte, of the Grove Farm Market, said the next big event at the weekly farmers market takes place on June 1 with the appearance of the craft vendors.
June 1 is also a super busy day since the Pride Parade takes place in Lihu‘e from 9 a.m. (traffic closures on Rice Street, again), followed by the Pride Festival on the lawn of the historic County Building. This free event also bangs with the opening day of the Kaua‘i Police Activities League flag football program, which will take over the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields.
This weekend, according to the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center staff, Coach Dino Pabre is hosting a basketball tournament featuring off-island teams.
Also, Carol Yotsuda, Shannon Hiramoto and the Boroboro Boutique ladies will be hosting their Sew-a-Thon (did anyone say “workshops?”) at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery as a fundraiser for “Ka Pae ‘Aina O Hawai‘i Nei” Hawaiian Archipelago Mosaic Program that will grace one of the long retaining walls at the Kilauea Lighthouse. Kat Ho, the project manager, will probably be at the Sew-a-Thon, too.
OK, time to check out the market where the Master Gardeners will be hosting Basilio “Coach Bunga” Fuertes in a live demonstration on June 1 … and if we’re lucky, maybe Waimea Canyon Middle School student Carmela Udarbe (Coach Bunga was her mentor — and basketball coach — since she was a student at the ‘Ele‘ele Elementary School) will be there, too.
