The 14th Pedal to the Meadow hill climb road race will take place on Sunday from the sea level Kekaha start/ It will end at Kanaloahuluhulu Meadow near the Koke‘e Lodge in Koke‘e State Park.
The race, which covers more than 15 miles and gains an elevation of nearly 3,900 feet, will start at 8 a.m. The course will close at 11 a.m.
Starting at 8 a.m., motorists along the bike climb are advised to watch for bicycles on Waimea Canyon Drive, from the intersection with Koke‘e Road to Koke‘e Lodge and Koke‘e Museum.
“Pass with extreme care,” the pedal committee said. ” While cyclists must obey all rules of the road, they will be focused on racing, may move quickly to avoid bad potholes or debris and may be in small groups.”
The annual hill climb involves riders from juniors, age 10 through 19), through men age 80-plus, and women from juniors, age 10 through 19, and through omen age 80-plus.
“Please be patient and avoid ‘leap-frogging’ them, especially on the curvy mountain road with many blind corners,” the Pedal committee said. “The race ends at 11 a.m., but some riders may still be on the course, or riding back down. Please share the road with aloha.”
