Michael Miyuki Cardinez
Michael Miyuki Cardinez, known for his ready smile and servant heart, peacefully left for Paradise on Feb. 28, 2024. He was an active member in the Kaua‘i Church of Christ, Lihu‘e. Michael was born in Waimea, Kaua‘i on Aug. 13, 1949. He served in the United States Navy for four years before becoming a Radar Technician at Makaha Ridge, Koke‘e from where he retired.
Michael was preceded in passing by his father Steven Cardinez, mother Evelyn (Oyakawa) Estrada, brother Ronald Cardinez, sister Lydia Castillo, brother-in-law David Banquel and the mother of his children, Monda Haney.
He is survived by his brothers Clarence (Carmen) Cardinez of California, Manolo (Ces) Delos Reyes of Kaumakani, James (Angela) Delos Reyes of Kaumakani, Steven (Karen) Cardinez of Florida, Alex (Shari) Cardinez of California and sisters Frances Bunao of Lihu‘e, Carol (Burt) Gonsalves of California, Alicia Estrada of Hanama‘ulu, Celia Marie Mancia of Oregon, Nelda Banquel of Hanapepe and his stepmother Evelyn “Nana” Cardinez of Kaumakani (who sadly passed on March 14, 2024).
Michael also leaves behind his children Kalei (Alden) Cardinez of Hanama‘ulu, Kananiokala (Harvey) Makekau of Hanama‘ulu, Mikey (Carolan) Cardinez of Kapa‘a and TC (Andrea) Cardinez of Wailua. He will remain a constant guide to his beloved grandchildren Cobie Cardinez, Megan Rego, Keona Nakamura, Kaiona Nakamura, Ricky Rego, Nainoa Cardinez, Auree Cardinez, Daniel Makekau and Sherilyn Makekau as well as his most precious great grandchildren Taiden Cardinez, Tia Cardinez, Kawehi Rego and Kamailelauli‘i Yap and his grand pups Hale, Nani, Pepe, Mali‘e, Li‘i, Hema and Lilo. Michael is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall, starting at 11:30 am. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers. Please come, talk story and enjoy heavy pupu and desserts with his ‘Ohana.

Edmundo G. Reyes
Edmundo G. Reyes passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, at the age of 57 years old. He was born on May 10, 1966, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i.
He is preceded in death by his father Bernardo Reyes Sr., nephew Brandon Hedgeman, niece Sarai Ann Reyes and brother-in-law Aliivaa Valaau.
Edmundo is survived by his sons Justin-Troy (Yajaira Serratos) Reyes of Ewa Beach, Hawai‘i, Andrew-James Reyes of Ewa Beach, Hawai‘i, grandchildren Anthony Soto, Eliana Reyes, mother Patricia Reyes of Kapa‘a, Kauai, brother Bernardo (Eliros) Reyes Jr. of Puhi, Kaua‘i, sisters Luisita Valaau of Honolulu, Hawai‘i, Clarissa (Virgilio Bautista Jr.) Reyes of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 8 to 10 a.m. A mass will begin at 10 a.m. at the St. Catherine Catholic Church in Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i. Burial to follow at the St. Catherines Cemetery in Kealia, Kaua‘i. Family suggests that Aloha Attire to be worn, with colors of Shade of blue or Navy Blue, and flowers are welcome.

Sarah Ulunani ‘Ulu’ Hoomanawanui
Sarah Ulunani “Ulu” Hoomanawanui of Anahola passed away on May 8, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born in Wainiha, Kaua‘i, on Aug. 5, 1937, and worked as a bus driver for Akita Enterprises.
She is preceded in passing by her loving husband Norman Hoomanawanui Sr., father Edward Keoua Puulei of Wainiha, mother Nancy Malia Hanohano Piilani of Wainiha, stepfather Peter K. Piilani Sr. of Wainiha, sons Richard Puulei, Hiram Kelii, sister Charlotte Hoomanawanui, brothers Edward Jr., William, and Henry.
Ulu is survived by her daughters Gwendolyn Iwalani (Tita) Hoomanawanui, MonaLisa Maile (Randy) Boyer, Melveen Leilani Hoomanawanui, Norma Jean Kawehilani Hoomanawanui, Belinda Chandler and Sara Asaoka, sons Norman Jr. (Davilyn), Leroy Kanaloa (Jordan) Hoomanawanui, Paul Poomaihealani, brother Ivan Kaipoleimanu Piilani, sister Jane Kinzie, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren with one in the oven, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Soon Ne Apilado
Soon Ne Apilado of Kekaha passed away on April 1, 2024, in Waimea at the age of 101. She was born on Feb. 1, 1923, in Puhi, Kaua‘i. She was a Laboratory Technician.
She is preceded in death by her husband Faustino Apilado, sons Patrick Apilado, Abraham Apilado, daughter Judy Manuel, grandchildren Paul Apilado, Paddy Boy Apilado, Joanna Apilado and Walter Laker.
Soon Ne is survived by her daughters Marilyn Laker of Arizona, Suzanne Novak (Tom) of Arizona, 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 1924, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kekaha Enterprise Center located at 7694 Ulili Rd., Kekaha, Kaua‘i.

Leticia Pilipina Serapio
Leticia Pilipina Serapio, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on March 19, 2024, in Honolulu at the age of 63. She was born on Oct. 4, 1960, in Langiden, Abra, Philippines. She was a housekeeper at the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club in Po‘ipu.
She was preceded in death by parents Pablo and Nena A. Pilipina and brother Carlito Pilipina.
She is survived by husband Hory C. Serapio, sons Norman (Maribelle) Serapio of Vancouver, Canada, Jay Mark (Charlyn) Serapio of ‘Ele‘ele, daughter Helen Grace (Rodolfo) Serapio of the Philippines, grandchildren Phoebe Ancheta, Noem Yosh Serapio, Anela Serapio, Natalie Serapio, sisters Natalia (Jovito) Bonifacio of the Philippines, Nora (Manny) Flores of the Philippines, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on May 25, 2024, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Ernest E. Segismundo, Sr., of Lihu‘e, passed away on April 10, 2024, at Kaua‘i Care Center at the age of 86. He was born on Nov. 25, 1937, in the Philippines. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy.
Ernest is survived by his sons Ernesto Segismundo, Jr. of Brea, California, Relly Segismundo (Marivic) of Kaua‘i, daughters Penchie Cabasag of Kaua‘i, Jannette S. Tacsiat of Kaua‘i, Joann S. Sales (Clarence) of Kaua‘i, grandchildren Valerie Aficial-Yoza (Darrell), Nikko Rey Tacsiat, Ginno Jay Tacsiat, Amalya J. Sales (Coby Lawrence), Isaiah W. Sales, Ralph Segismundo, Mikhaela Segismundo, 3 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, 3 sisters, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center. The visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. with a celebration of life from 11 a.m. to noon. The family requests casual or aloha attire and flowers are welcome.
