Happy birthday to Sgt. Major Keith Castaneda, who was surprised with a fancy birthday cake on Saturday during the “big party (his words)” Saturday night Bingo (Thomas Nizo said he checked with Rebecca Like and did all the paperwork and guidelines to make it legal at the historic Waimea Theatre) fundraiser for the Waimea High School JROTC cadets, who are bound for France to participate in the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.

Mahalo to Ken and Rep. Dee Morikawa for dropping off a second check for $10,000 on behalf of the West Kaua‘i Club 100. Randall Francisco (he did his own challenge gift, too!) said this brings the Club 100 total contribution to $20,000 after the Morikawa’s had earlier dropped off a check.
Jocelyn Barriga said they’ll be back at the Grove Farm Market on Saturday with more andagi and anda-dog as a fundraiser for the JROTC. She was busy with the JROTC cadets helping with the Malama Military food distribution that was a partnership with the Hawai‘i National Guard and the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i with support from the Kekaha agricultural group (Stephanie Iona said the round onions are really good). Jocelyn wrapped up the day at Saturday night Bingo.
Kudos to Coach Cassie Wong for getting all those Kaua‘i Krush softball players to the airport to greet the two-time Division II Kapa‘a softball team, and kudos to Hawaiian Airlines for getting everyone — the Kapa‘a softball, the Waimea softball and the Kaua‘i baseball teams on the same flight! Definitely a big party!
And the rain is finally supposed to drift away, today! Watch out for the brown water … high school graduation is this week!
