KALAHEO — The Department of Public Works announced that a portion of Wawae Road will be closed until further notice because of unsafe conditions.
The closure will run along Wawae Road, between Kuli Road and Iwilei Road, in Kalaheo. The road closure is a result of a flooding event in April. Erosion under Wawae Road continues to make the road unstable and unsafe for motorists.
“After frequent inspections of the affected roadway, this area of Wawae Road has been closed immediately and until … it is deemed safe, “said County of Kaua‘i Engineer Troy Tanigawa in a statement on Thursday, May 9.
Road closure signs and barriers have been installed to alert motorists and prevent any vehicular traffic. County officials also thanked area residents for their patience and understanding while the situation is addressed.
Updates will be announced as new information becomes available. Anyone with questions may contact the Public Works Roads Division at 808-241-4847.
