LIHU‘E — Sunday was celebrated as Children’s Day, and this Sunday is Mother’s Day, so it was a no-brainer for Kukui Grove Center to celebrate both on Tuesday during the shopping center’s regularly scheduled Toddler Tuesday.
“How did we know?” said Brenda Biehler Turville of Showtime Characters, who escorted the specially dressed Mickey and Minnie in blue and pink pajamas. “These costumes are great for the gender reveal parties (for young expectant moms).”
Toddler Tuesdays takes place at Kukui Grove on the first and third Tuesdays from 11 a.m. and provides keiki and toddlers an opportunity to romp around with seasonal characters before settling down for photos.
The 30-minute program also ran under the current May Shop and Dine program, which is geared for shopping for mom, a graduate or just because.
Under terms of the Shop and Dine that launched on May Day, Kukui Grove shoppers collect $100 in receipts and receive a $10 gift card good at any of the shopping center’s eateries. The contest is limited to people 16 years old, and above.
As a bonus, shoppers collecting $200 or more earn double gifts.
More information is available at the shopping center’s website, www.kukuigrovecenter.com or call 808-245-7764.
Shopping takes the spotlight on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the Kaua‘i Made Happy Mother’s Day event featuring nearly a dozen Kaua‘i Made vendors making a pop-up appearance alongside the Kukui Grove tenant merchants.
Some of the participating Kaua‘i Made mom vendors include Kaila Kaua‘i apparel whose owner is herself a mom, Kiyomi’s Sweet Treats, the Salty Wahine Gourmet Hawaiian Sea Salts that is another mom, Kaua‘i Gardens, Alohilani’s Kreation, Akialoa Wellness, Jules from Da ‘Aina who is yet another mom, Kiki Brock, Mailelani’s, Aunty Lilikoi, and Scrappy Designs.
“The shopping center wants some characters out on Saturday, too,” Turville said. “I need to get some bricks from the car. There’s a wind coming in from somewhere that’s blowing the curtains of the selfie station. That should fix everything for Mother’s Day.”
