KAPA’A — A gazebo fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damage on Tuesday afternoon.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) said personnel, including an on-duty battalion chief, responded to a 911 call about a structure fire on Kahuna Road.
“According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly before 5 p.m., firefighters with the Kaiakea Fire Station discovered a gazebo-like structure fully engulfed in flames on Kahuna Road,” the KFD said.
“Personnel with the Kapa‘a station arrived soon after. The fire was controlled and extinguished using approximately 750 gallons of water. It was determined that flames from the gazebo melted part of the roof of the main residential structure.”
Once the fire was extinguished, KFD Fire Prevention investigators took command of the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 6:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
