Makamae Lyu-Napoleon was one of the Next Gen players who attends Damien High School (she knew all about the play-in softball game coming up on Friday with Waimea High School). She and fellow Next Gen player Isabella Bertelmann (she goes to Kamehameha Schools) have been playing as students of Alan Akana for about five years, and only did stage appearances from last year (yep, they were here at Kukui Grove back then). So, who was the Post Gen that was sleeping? Alan said the concert the night before must have been intense.
Kudos to the entire Child &Family Service crew (wow! 150 volunteers?) on hosting the second ‘Ohana Fun Day (when does it become annual?) at the Grove Farm Puhi park open field where Dave Hinazumi had to open the gates after midnight because some of the vendors were participants of the Saint Catherine Carnival (great job, emcee-ing, Bernard Carvalho Jr.!) that wrapped up Saturday night. Mahalo to Mryvie Buster of the Garden Island Federal Credit Union for letting TGI know about the event while participating in the Charity Walk on Saturday.
Money raised from the walk is still coming in because the auction on the Hawai‘i Lodging and Tourism Association website hltakauai.org is live until 10 p.m. on May 15. Additionally, Ike Cockett, this year’s Walk chair, said on Saturday that they’re working on a National Football League package that will go up for auction through the end of May … watch for it on the auction site.
