PRINCEVILLE — A 65-year-old Washington man was rescued by first responders after he fell and broke his leg late Friday afternoon.
Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) personnel with the Hanalei fire station responded to the incident after the department received a 911 call shortly after 4:50 p.m. of an injured person in need of urgent assistance near Kamehameha Road.
Rescue 3 onboard Air 1 arrived on the scene and found the injured Washington visitor, who suffered a broken leg after he fell roughly 15 feet onto the reef near Kaweonui Point, also known as Sea Lodge Beach.
Due to the location of the injured visitor, Rescue 3 and Air 1 mobilized while Hanalei first responders splinted the man’s leg. He was then safely packaged and transported to a nearby landing zone in Princeville.
“Awaiting personnel from American Medical Response provided advanced life support and continued efforts on the visitor before transporting him to Wilcox Medical Center (in Lihue),” the KFD said.
The scene was cleared shortly after 6:40 p.m.
