Jed Somit, Kaua‘i senior softballer — where are the East Kaua‘i Legends in the standings? — and author of “Men are Pigs,” will be spending Mother’s Day at the Anaina Hou Community Park mini golf from noon on Sunday because “Men are Pigs” have several Mother’s Day-themed passages.

Neill Sams of Orchid Alley (First Saturday was perfect to check out the latest Mother’s Day offerings) said the deadline for getting live blooming orchids to the mainland by Mother’s Day is Monday (that’s today!). He’s taking orders for Kaua‘i South Shore and North Shore deliveries up to Saturday.
Graduation (anyone notice all those congratulatory signs popping up all around town?) and Mother’s Day season are in full swing as Kaua‘i Community College Interim Chancellor Margaret Sanchez (she was participating in the Charity Walk with Steve Nakata, Marty Amaro and the culinary arts students on Saturday!) said the KCC graduation is Friday at 4 p.m. Yikes, that’s the same day we have the state’s Division II softball play-in game between Waimea and the O‘ahu Interscholastic Association Division II runner-up Damien High School … congratulations, Menehune for holding off a comeback Red Raiders 11-9 in the softball doubleheader at Isenberg Park (no rainout, here, Mr. Jed!).
And, congratulations, Red Raiders (they were at the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation rain make-up baseball game against Kapa‘a at Vidinha Stadium) on taking the nightcap 7-1! Mahalo, Jocelyn Barriga and the Waimea High School JROTC for having that ono “an-dog-gi” and andagi that was perfect for the pick-me-up lunch at the Grove Farm Market (they’ll be there for the month of May!) as a fundraiser for the JROTC’s participation in the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Europe!
