KAPA‘A — A residential fire displaced three people and caused an estimated $500,000 in damage on Saturday evening.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) said firefighters from Kaiakea, Kapa‘a and Lihu‘e were dispatched around 6:20 p.m. to a residence on Apelila Street in Kapa‘a after receiving reports of a house on fire.
Upon arrival, fire crews were met by an off-duty firefighter already nearby when the blaze was reported and assisted crews on the scene along with the on-duty battalion chief and firefighters from the Fire Prevention Bureau, who also responded to the call.
“Once on scene, firefighters found a single-story residence on fire,” the KFD said. “All occupants of the home were outside and safe upon their arrival.”
One occupant of the home was treated by American Medical Response (AMR) medics for smoke inhalation, and then transported to Wilcox Medical Center in Lihu‘e to be evaluated.
No other injuries were reported. Volunteers with the American Red Cross were called out to the scene to assist the displaced individuals.
The cause of the fire still remains under investigation.
