LIHU‘E — Registration for the 2024 keiki and junior lifeguard programs has been officially announced.
Officials with the Ocean Safety Bureau (OSB) said online registration for the two programs will begin on May 1. Enrollment opens at 7:45 a.m. at no cost. Enrollment will be limited.
The Keiki Lifeguard Program is available to children ages 8 to 11, who can swim and run 50 yards nonstop.
The Junior Lifeguard Program is open to youths ages 12 to 17, who can swim and run 100 yards nonstop.
Proof of birth certificate is required for each participant. Participants will also need to bring their lunch, sunscreen and a towel to the training daily.
The free programs will cover ocean safety awareness and lifesaving skills, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:
• June 10 to 14 at Salt Pond Beach
• June 17 to 21 at Hanalei Pavilion
• June 24 to June 28 at Kalapaki Beach
• July 8 to 12 at Salt Pond Beach
• July 15 to 19 Hanalei Pavilion
• July 22 to 26 at Kalapaki Beach
Program sponsors include the County of Kaua‘i, Kaua‘i Lifeguard Association, Hawaiian Lifeguard Association, and many generous businesses and individuals.
