LIHU‘E — A flood watch is in effect from midnight Saturday until 6 a.m. Monday because of a slow moving storm that has the potential to dump several inches of rain on the island of Kaua‘i.
LIHU‘E — A flood watch is in effect from midnight Saturday until 6 a.m. Monday because of a slow moving storm that has the potential to dump several inches of rain on the island of Kaua‘i.
The National Weather Service said flood prone roads and low lying areas may be closed due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas may receive more significant flooding and property damage due to rapid runoff.
The south, southeast, east and north sides of the island, as well as the mountains, are forecast to experience heavy rainfall. The forecast calls for 3 to 4 inches of rain on Sunday with an additional one-half to three-quarters of an inch on Sunday evening.
“A slow moving front will produce heavy showers and thunderstorms over Kaua‘i County,” the National Weather Service said on Saturday.
“Due to preexisting wet soil conditions, any additional heavy rainfall will quickly lead to runoff and flash flooding concerns. Weather conditions should begin to improve by Monday morning with decreasing rainfall amounts.”
