The Garden Island Orchid Society (GIOS) will also enjoy its opening day of the Spring Orchid Show and Sale across Kaumuali‘i Highway at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ social hall from 3 to 7 p.m. (go early before those homemade baked goods sell out). The GIOS event continues on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Last week, Ed Justus hosted Los Angeles-based author Sasha Lee and her mom for the book signing of “The Hanapepe Hero” that talks about Sasha’s dad growing up in Hanapepe (the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Nursery students loved the part about Hanapepe Bridge). Sasha and her mom wrapped up their Kaua‘i road trip with a visit to ‘Ele‘ele Elementary School, and the Kodomo no Hi (the actual day is coming up in May!) event at Kukui Grove. Sasha said the book is available at Talk Story Bookstore, as well as online at www.thehanapepehero.com with the proceeds being earmarked for ‘Ele‘ele School.
Jed Somit (remember him from the Kaua‘i Senior Softball league?) just released his “Men are Pigs” book on “stories which passed the time of tests,” and will be doing a book signing on April 26 at Talk Story Bookstore, from 5 to 8 p.m., again coinciding with the weekly Friday Night Art. Jed said “Easter Rhyme,” the poem, was published in TGI a few years ago.
