HANAPEPE — Vehicular traffic flow on Kaumuali‘i Highway came to an abrupt halt after a collision between a school bus and pickup truck occurred in Hanapepe.
On Friday, April, 5, a green Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Kaumuali‘i Highway at around 2:40 p.m. when the pickup crossed the center divider and collided head-on with a Yamaguchi School Bus, the Kauai Police Department said.
The driver of the school bus and a single juvenile passenger did not report any injuries. However, the driver of the Toyota Tacoma, a 69-year-old woman from Kekaha was treated and released on the scene after responding medics found non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic on Kaumuali‘i Highway was alternated for about 45 minutes before the arrival of a tow truck.
“Once a tow truck arrived, the roadway was closed for approximately 25 minutes as crews worked to clear both vehicles from the road,” the Kauai Police Department said.
This crash remains under investigation.
