Leina‘ala’s halau captured second place in overall with 1,199 points, just four points better than Hula Halau ‘O Kamuele with Kumu Kunewa Mook and Kau‘ionalani Kamana‘o of O‘ahu, who earned 1,195 points.
En route to the overall silver, the Kalaheo-based halau earned second place in Wahine Kahiko with 594 points, again just four points better than Ka La Onohi Mai O Ha‘eha‘e, who finished with 591 points, and just three marks behind first place halau Hula Halau ‘O Kamuela.
Kumu Leina‘ala’s halau also finished a solid second during Wahine ‘Auana competition on Saturday night with 605 points, just five marks off Ka La ‘Onohi Mai O Ha‘eha‘e with Na Kumu Hula Tracie and Keawe Lopes of O‘ahu, who earned the top Overall award.
It’s also a good thing the Kaua‘i Senior Softball league is in rain delay because retired Chef Guy Higa (is he going to be at the ‘ukulele festival next Sunday?) could enjoy the collaborative Kodomo no Hi (Children’s Day) festivities at Kukui Grove Center on Saturday and Stephan Fujii could get one of the Department of Water free hose nozzles before they ran out at Grove Farm Market.
