KAPA‘A — The Kapa‘a High School softball team plated nine runs in the third inning on Wednesday night en route to a 16-11 win over Waimea High School in a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation single-game softball match at the softball diamond on the Kapa‘a campus.
KAPA‘A — The Kapa‘a High School softball team plated nine runs in the third inning on Wednesday night en route to a 16-11 win over Waimea High School in a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation single-game softball match at the softball diamond on the Kapa‘a campus.
The nine-run frame answered a 6-1 deficit after the Menehune came up with six runs in the second inning, according to statistics posted on the ScoringLive.com website. Waimea continued to chip away at the 10-6 hole with a run in the fourth, a pair of runs in the fifth and a pair of runs in the seventh.
The Lady Warriors countered the effort with a run in the fifth, and five big runs in the sixth to put the contest to bed when the Menehune answered with just a pair of runs in the top of the seventh.
Lady Warrior Lilinoe Kuhaulua-Leong had the big bat for Kapa‘a, who mustered 15 hits for their 16 runs. Kuhaulua-Leong finished with three hits, scored once, and marked four runs batted in against her three-bagger.
Sienna Yamashita also marked a triple in one of her three hits. She scored four times and marked two RBIs. Hailey Gibson and Rhea Furtado also added three hits each for the Lady Warriors.
L. Camara and N. Pablo topped the seven hits marked by Waimea with a hit each and each driving in a pair of Menehune scorers.
With the win, Kapa‘a ends the KIF first round with a 6-0 record. Waimea will host Kaua‘i High School on Saturday in a doubleheader matchup at the Waimea Canyon Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
