Edmund F. Ku Malama Sr.
Edmund F. Ku Malama Sr., age 81, of Kekaha, Kaua‘i, died in Hospice Care in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, on Feb. 17, 2024. He was born in Waimea, Kaua‘i, worked for Iron Workers Union and owned Ed’s Welding.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Albarado Malama, son Edmund Malama Jr., parents Joseph Ku, Lucille Malama, sisters Elaine Parker, Bluebell Kaowili, Alma Nerez, Barbara Westerdale, Florence Ilae, Abigail Estacio, brothers Joseph Malama Jr., Vernon Malama, Llewellyn Malama and PaddyBoy Malama.
Survived by Moopuna Roslyn (Jesse) Cummings of Kalaheo, Brandon (Karen Gray) Malama of ‘Ele‘ele, Shandiin (Chad) Valmoja of Kalaheo, Kaliko Waahila of Phoenix, Arizona, Moopuna nui Jaidalyn, Ryder, Madison, Hunter, Maddox, Noah, Luke Cummings, Kyla, Brynn, Kenna, Brody Malama, Kenzie, Kaizely, Kaizen, Kyler Valmoja, brother Billy (Leona) Malama of Oregon, sisters-in-law Pinky Malama of Kekaha, Joyce (Danny) Tomas of Lihu‘e, Lorraine Albarado of O‘ahu, brother-in-law Jerry (Ellen) Albarado of Hanapepe, numerous nieces and nephews.
Services on April 6, 2024, at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon and scattering at Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor, located at 8932 Kekaha Road in Kekaha.
Evelyn Juan Cardinez
Evelyn Juan Cardinez, of Kaumakani, passed away on March 14, 2024, in Hanapepe at the age of 91. She was born on Nov. 30, 1932, in the Philippines. She was truck driver for Olokele Sugar Plantation and a kitchen staff at Matsuura Store.
She was preceded in death by husband Steven H. Cardinez, parents Elpidia Tambio, Daniel Juan, stepsons Ronald Cardinez, Michael M. Cardinez, stepdaughter Lydia Castillo, brothers Fernando Juan, Bernardo Juan, sisters Juaquina Quelnat, Monica Juan and son-in-law David Banquel.
She is survived by sons Manolo (Ces) Delos Reyes of Kaumakani, James (Angela) Delos Reyes of Kaumakani, Steven R. (Karen) Cardinez of Florida, Alex (Shari) Cardinez of California, stepson Clarence (Carmen) Cardinez of California, daughters Celia Mancia of Oregon, Nelda Banquel of Hanapepe, stepdaughters Frances Bunao of Lihu‘e, Carol (Burt) Gonsalves of California, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at the Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m., with service to follow. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Frances Carreira
Frances Carreira passed away peacefully at home at the age of 96 on Friday, March 22, 2024. She was born on July 26, 1927, in Kealia, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i. She was the Head Hostess at the Coconut Palms Hotel.
She was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Carreira, her parents John F. and Ida Baretto, son George (Teri) Alves, daughter Patricia (the late Robert, Sr.) Cremer, sister Bernice Ornellas and brother John Baretto.
Her surviving family is her daughters Eileen (Philip, Sr.) Rapozo and Charlotte (David) Rapozo of Kapa‘a, son David (Donna) Alves of Jamestown, California, stepchildren Dorothy Costillo of Las Vegas and Herbert Carreira of Kapa‘a. Her three sisters are Dolores Barreira, Mona Mock and Theresa Weiry. Also, numerous nieces, nephews and many loved ones.
Frances was blessed with her family of 5 children, 23 grandchildren, 65 great- grandchildren and 61 great-great-grandchildren. She was the queen of five generations with 156 loved ones.
A celebration of Frances’ life will be held at the Lydgate Park on the grass below the soccer field on Saturday, April 20 at 11 a.m.

George Lumabao, of Makaweli, passed away on March 16, 2024, on Kaua‘i at the age of 82. He was born on May 8, 1941, on Kaua‘i. He was a Heavy Machinery Mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his father Prospero Lumabao, mother Sally Lumbao, brothers Junior Acgtuca, Edward Lumabao, sisters Mildred Vaughn, Shierley Barino and son-in-law Clifford Espanto.
He is survived by his wife Lynette Lumabao, sons George A. Lumabao of Pakala, Paul Lumabao (Esther) of Hanapepe, daughters Laura Nishek (Jerry) of Hanapepe, Pamela Cooper (Kim Zarate-Amaya) of Kaua‘i, Cheryl Espanto of Kaua‘i, grandchildren Kristi Anne Auau, John A. Lumabao, Paul Lumabao-Espanto, Cody Nishek, Alana Lumabao, Tommy Cooper, George Lumabao, Jr., Bradly Lumabao, Noah Espanto, Braden Lumabao, Isaiah Espanto, Paige Lumabao, nine great-grandchildren, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at House A23 in Pakala Village. Visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 2 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Jennelle Balmidiano, of Hanapepe, passed away on March 20, 2024, at home at the age of 71. She was born on Jan. 21, 1953, in Kapa‘a. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by parents Luther and Salome Wong.
She is survived by husband Rudy Balmidiano of Hanapepe, son Jed Balmidiano (Cynthia Chong Tim) of Lihu‘e, daughter Shen Balmidiano (Joshua Rapanot) of ‘Ele‘ele, grandchildren Piilani Buyat, Jaxon Balmidiano, brothers Zenon K. Wong of Kapa‘a, Levon K. Wong of Kapa‘a, Reuel K. Wong (Cindy Delos Reyes) of Kapa‘a, sisters Novena K. (Ronald) Valdez of ‘Ele‘ele, Charlene Daraben of O‘ahu, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at Garden Island Mortuary on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 3 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Jason Rafael Olores, of Kekaha, passed away on March 21, 2024, in Kekaha at the age of 58. He was born on Dec. 2, 1965, in Waimea, Kaua‘i.
He was preceded in death by his mother Evelyn Olores, brothers Dana Olores, Marvin Olores, sister-in-law Linda Olores and nephew Mika Olores.
He is survived by his significant other Bobbi Bryant of Texas, sons Naveen Alaka’i Olores of Texas, Justin Rapozo of Kaua‘i, father Valeriano Olores, brothers Jonathan Olores of Kekaha, Gordan (Leanne) Olores of Kalaheo, sisters Valerie (Manuel) Santiago of Kekaha, Janet (Harold) Bradford of Lihu‘e, Evelyn (Thomas) Riley of Minnesota, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on April 13, 2024, at MacArthur Park in Kekaha. Visitation is from noon to 1 p.m. followed by service at 1 p.m. The family requests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Robert Wells Butler, Jr.
Robert Wells Butler, Jr., of Kilauea, passed away at home on Feb. 16, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born on Dec. 24, 1947, in Santa Monica, California. He was a general contractor.
He was preceded in death by parents Robert Wells Butler, Sr., Marjorie Butler and brother Jeffrey Butler.
He is survived by wife Kathleen Butler, sons Benjamin Butler (Jennifer Randall) of Kilauea, Bryan Butler (Michael) of San Francisco, daughter Aimee Butler (Chad) Fahlbusch of Manhattan Beach, grandchildren Thatcher Fahlbusch, Blake Fahlbusch, Landon Butler and sister Barbara Butler of New Jersey.
A service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Waipa beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make your donation to Kaua‘i Hospice or Waipa Foundation. The family suggests aloha attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Wiley Kaipolani Junjiro Bernard Yoshioka
Wiley Kaipolani Junjiro Bernard Yoshioka, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the age of 32 years old. He was born on Nov. 28, 1991. He was a lead pipe fitter for the County of Kaua‘i, Department of Water.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Jitsuo and Theresa Yoshioka and Bernard and Violet Almarza.
He is survived by parents Darin “Ipo” and Sandra Yoshioka of Lihu‘e, brothers Micah Yoshioka of Lihu‘e, Hunter Yoshioka of Lihu‘e, Kobi Yoshioka of Lihu‘e, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Eric Andrew Corn
Eric Andrew Corn passed away on March 4, 2024, in Calgary, Canada, at the age of 59. He was born in Anderson, South Carolina, on May 12, 1964.
Eric is survived by his wife Sunny Gail Mitsui of Kapa‘a, daughter Amber (Tyler) Smith of Stirling, Canada, son Kyle (Jennie) Taylor of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, six grandchildren, sister-in-law Joy (Ken) Au of O‘ahu, and mother-in-law Helen Mitsui of Kilauea.
He worked at the Pacific Missile Range at Barking Sands as a Range Operations Program Manager and Operations Conductor and was a veteran of the US Navy.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 13, at the Kilauea Episcopal Christ Memorial Church at 11 a.m. Aloha attire is suggested. The family asks that flowers be omitted.
