PRINCEVILLE — Renyn Lee was the sole Kaua‘i High School boys individualist to make the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation Top 5 boys list on Saturday at a golf match contested at Princeville Makai Golf Course.
Island School’s Garrett Hadley finished with a 79 to claim top honors, followed by Voyager Lucas Summerhays with an 81
Lee, who shot 82, led the Kaua‘i High School boys to a team win at 351 to edge Kapa‘a High School, who ended the round at 352.
The Waimea High School Menehune boys filled in third place at 358. Waimea was led by Kanoa Martin, who finished tied for fourth with Christopher Jobe of Island School. Both golfers finished at 84.
Island School, despite having three of its golfer finish in the Top 5, rounded out the leaderboard at 360, nine strokes off the pace.
“This was the tightest week for results in the KIF boys team division,” said Paul Ito, a former golf professional, and the father of Kaua‘i High School girls golfer Sydney Ito. “The Kaua‘i High School boys were able to hold on and beat Kapa‘a High School by one stroke.”
On the girls course, Kaua‘i High School was the sole division scorers with a 270 team total.
Leilani Redondo, Amalia Abigania and Sydney Ito, all Kaua‘i High School golfers, filled in the top three spots of the girls top 5. Redondo carded an 85, six strokes ahead of Abigania’s 91. Ito finished nine strokes off the pace at 94.
Juliette O’Shaughnessy of Kapa‘a High School and Bailey Ponce of Island School finished tied for fourth place, each golfer returning to the clubhouse with scores of 100.
The next KIF golf match tees off on Saturday at Wailua Golf Course when the first groups starting at noon.
