Roy ‘Kawa’ Kiyoshi Kawamura
Roy “Kawa” Kiyoshi Kawamura, 81, passed away of natural causes on Feb. 25, 2024, at his Aiea home. Roy was born in Lihu‘e, the elder of two sons, to Sakae and Yoshiko (Shintani) Kawamura.
Roy graduated from Kaua‘i High School and Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, to become a science teacher at Radford High School.
Roy was active in the Hawai‘i State Teachers Association and a volunteer and supporter for Reading is Fundamental and Shinnyo-En Hawai‘i. Roy was the President for the Ridgeway D condominium and the treasurer of the Kaua‘i High School Foundation, Class of 1960.
Roy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Arlene (Sumimoto) Kawamura, his only brother Gary was killed in action in the Vietnam Conflict, numerous nieces and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Kaua‘i and O‘ahu.
On Kaua‘i, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center. Visitation begins at 3 p.m., followed by funeral service at 3:30 p.m. Refreshments to follow. The family suggests aloha attire and requests no koden (monetary gifts) or flowers.
On O‘ahu, Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Mililani Memorial Park at Waipio, Mauka Chapel. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., services at 10:30 a.m., and burial will follow at 1 p.m. Refreshments to follow. The family suggests aloha attire and requests no koden (monetary gifts) or flowers.
Duane T. Souza
Duane T. Souza, 78, of Kapa‘a, passed away at Garden Isle Health Care on Jan. 17, 2024. He was born in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, on Oct. 26, 1945, and retired from Kaua‘i Police Department as a police officer.
He is survived by his wife Moana Souza, daughters Marlo (Reno) Alaipalelei, Tiana (Shane) Enos, Halia (Kyson) Souza, 3 grandchildren Kamalu (Rain) Umu, Nalani Umu, Naleiaala Enos, 5 great-grandchildren Tewai, Tytus, Lion, Hina, Luna, brothers Maurice (Carola) Souza of O‘ahu, Gareth (Wendy) Souza of Kapa‘a, sisters Maureen Bloom of California, Wilma (Richard) Boudreau of O‘ahu, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents William and Virginia Souza, brother William Leo Souza and sister Duanne W. Torres.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a with visitation from 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Family graciously declines flowers and requests Aloha attire.

Jovita C. Acob
Jovita C. Acob, 87, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, in Pakala Camp. She was born on Nov. 5, 1936, in the Philippines.
She was preceded in death by husband Marciano Acob Sr. and parents Dalmacio and Enriqueta Castillo.
She survived by sons Marciano (Shirley) Acob Jr. of Honolulu, Jim (Marites) Acob of Milan, Italy, daughters Lynn (Vincent) Jose of Waimea, Clair (Bong) Lagazo of Kaumakani, grandchildren Michelle (Michael) Jose, Mark (Patria) Jose, Vinny Jose Jr., Grace (Alex) Acob, Christian (Janus) Acob, Sherwin (Aileen) Acob, great-grandchildren Marie, Riley, Axel, Asher, Cara, Kai, Cami, numerous brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services to be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Viewing is from 3 to 5 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 5 p.m. Cremation will follow the celebration. The family suggests causal attire and welcomes flowers.

Edmund F. Ku Malama Sr., age 81, of Kekaha, Kaua‘i, died in Hospice Care in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, on Feb. 17, 2024. He was born in Waimea, Kaua‘i, worked for Iron Workers Union and owned Ed’s Welding.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Albarado Malama, son Edmund Malama Jr., parents Joseph Ku, Lucille Malama, sisters Elaine Parker, Bluebell Kaowili, Alma Nerez, Barbara Westerdale, Florence Ilae, Abigail Estacio, brothers Joseph Malama Jr., Vernon Malama, Llewellyn Malama and PaddyBoy Malama.
Survived by Moopuna Roslyn (Jesse) Cummings of Kalaheo, Brandon (Karen Gray) Malama of ‘Ele‘ele, Shandiin (Chad) Valmoja of Kalaheo, Kaliko Waahila of Phoenix, Arizona, Moopuna nui Jaidalyn, Ryder, Madison, Hunter, Maddox, Noah, Luke Cummings, Kyla, Brynn, Kenna, Brody Malama, Kenzie, Kaizely, Kaizen, Kyler Valmoja, brother Billy (Leona) Malama of Oregon, sisters-in-law Pinky Malama of Kekaha, Joyce (Danny) Tomas of Lihu‘e, Lorraine Albarado of O‘ahu, brother-in-law Jerry (Ellen) Albarado of Hanapepe, numerous nieces and nephews.

Florentino Salvador, Sr.
Florentino Salvador, Sr., of Kilauea, passed away on Feb. 21, 2024, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 91. He was born on Nov. 24, 1932, in Hanalei. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a plant seed operator of Lihu‘e Plantation.
He was preceded in death by father Hilario Salvador, mother Irene Salvador, son Neil Salvador, brothers William, Bonafacio and Nicholas Salvador.
He is survived by wife Eliza Salvador of Kilauea, son Florentino Salvador, Jr. of Kilauea, daughters Janet (Bart) Ovalles of Kilauea, Peggy (Eddie Espina) Salvador of Kilauea, grandchildren Preston and Ryan Ovalles, Tyler Shimauchi, Kevin Salvador, Ashley Espina, Austin Salvador, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Kilauea St. Sylvester. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Wiley Kaipolani Junjiro Bernard Yoshioka
Wiley Kaipolani Junjiro Bernard Yoshioka, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the age of 32 years old. He was born on Nov. 28, 1991. He was a lead pipe fitter for the County of Kaua‘i, Department of Water.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Jitsuo and Theresa Yoshioka and Bernard and Violet Almarza.
He is survived by parents Darin “Ipo” and Sandra Yoshioka of Lihu‘e, brothers Micah Yoshioka of Lihu‘e, Hunter Yoshioka of Lihu‘e, Kobi Yoshioka of Lihu‘e, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.
