LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) announced the results of its Board of Directors election on Saturday afternoon.
The Merriman River Group submitted the official election results where Mike Yamane captured the most votes at 3,376. Incumbent directors David Iha received 2,984 votes and Teofilo Phil Tacbian finished with 2,678 votes, or 30 votes ahead of Janet Kass, who finished with 2, 648 votes.
For the election, KIUC mailed 26,920 ballots on Feb. 23 and received 4,563 responses for a 16.95 percent voter turnout.
Internet and telephone voting was available from 12:01 a.m., Feb. 23 through 12 p.m. on March 16. A special ballot collection box was also made available in the KIUC office located at 4463 Pahe‘e Street.
Merriman River Group, a Connecticut-based election management firm, conducted the election where the ballots were counted at the KIUC office following the noon election closing on Mar. 16.
The elected board members will be inaugurated on March 26 at the annual meeting of the Board of Directors.
