AHUKINI — The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center team will be back on-site at the Kaua‘i Resource Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.
Residents, businesses and other organizations can bring in unwanted or unneeded items for reuse at no charge. These items can include clothing, small furniture, children’s toys, books and shoes. Clothing and textiles do not need to be in good condition. Torn or stained clothing is accepted.
Items not accepted include e-Waste, chemicals, appliances, or broken items. The county Solid Waste Division encourages the public to check with their local thrift stores to see if they are capable of taking donations before bringing them to the Kaua‘i Resource Center.
Residential generated chemicals, including automotive products, lead-acid batteries, lawn and garden products, oil-based paints, thinners and stains can be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection sites that will be available on March 23 and March 24.
That HHW event is for residents only. Material from businesses, government agencies, nonprofits and farmers are not allowed.
On March 23, the HHW sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kapa‘a Base Yard located past the Kapa‘a Ball Park, as well as at the Hanapepe Base Yard at 4380 Lele Road.
On March 24, the HHW sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Resource Center and at Anaina Hou Community Park near the Kilauea Mini-Golf.
Items not accepted at the HHW sites include e-Waste, propane tanks, medical waste, tires, used motor oil, fireworks, ammunition, flaress and latex paint.
Due to health and safety concerns because of heavy equipment in the area, and to reduce the chance of injury to customers unloading heavy items, the Salvation Army ARC team requests that the motorists remain in their vehicle while at the site for contributions.
The ARC team also offers pick up services to thrift stores and businesses. Call 808-241-4336 to schedule new service.
