LIHU‘E — Island School golfer Lucas Summerhays finished with the best boys round at a 5-over par 77 on Saturday during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf matches at Puakea Golf Course.
Summerhays was joined by Voyagers golfer Garrett Hadley a stroke back at 78.
“Lucas’ 77 and Garrett’s 78 were really solid scores under those windy conditions,” said Paul Ito.
Kaua‘i golfer JV Sibuma carded an 84 for third place, a stroke better than Kapa‘a’s Graham Morgan, who ended with an 85. Kaua‘i’s Cody Nii and Caleb Taba tied for fifth place honors at 86 each.
However, the scores came up short as the Kaua‘i High School boys golf team captured top honors at 343, three strokes better than Island School’s team that finished with a team 346.
Kapa‘a High School followed three strokes back of the Voyagers at 349. Waimea High School rounded out the leaderboard at 376.
On the girls course, Kaua‘i High School’s Leilani Redondo repeated in first place individualist with an 87 followed by fellow Red Raider Sydney Ito, who broke the 100-stroke mark at 92.
Red Raider girls golfer Amalia Abigania settled in third place individualist at 100, followed by Kapa‘a’s Juliette O’Shaughnerssy in fourth place at 102, two strokes better than fellow Lady Warrior Mehana Guy, who settled at 104.
Those two Red Raider wahine golfers led the Red Raider girls team to the top with a team total 279. Kapa‘a High School finished in the reserve position at 316.
KIF golf continues this Saturday at the Ocean Course Hokuala when the first groups tee off starting at noon.
Following a week’s break for the spring break, KIF returns to the courses at the Princeville Makai Golf Course on March 30 when the first groups leave starting at noon.
