Ernesto Arias
Ernesto Arias, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away peacefully at his home on Feb. 16, 2024, at the age of 82. He was born in Abra, Philippines, on April 28, 1941, where he worked on his own rice farm.
He was preceded in passing by parents Enoc and Esperanza Arias, daughter Elvira Arias, brother Romy Barbero and sister Remedios Vasquez.
Ernesto is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Cleotilde Arias, children Crisanta (Jose) Penullar, Leonora (Marvin) Giam, Victorino (Marites) Arias, Irma Arias, Elma (Reynaldo) Buhain, Gracelle (Julius) Llego, siblings Esther Gandeza, Federico (Luz) Barbero, Teresita (Vene) Ballestra, Josephine Sariana, Elizabeth Barbero and 13 grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church with a funeral Mass starting at 10 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Violet M. Moura
Violet M. Moura, 90, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on March 2, 2024. She was born in ‘Ele‘ele on June 13, 1933, and was a nurse at ‘Ele‘ele Dispensary.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Wallace F. Moura, her parents William and Mary Reis, sisters Alfreda and Mabel, brothers Adam, Harry and Alfred.
She is survived by daughter Joan Moura, sons Gary and Robert, brother Thomas Reis, sisters-in-law Janet Reis (Adam), Frances Frietas (Joe), Dorothy Moura (Albert), six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, niece Shirley Laguatan, nephew John Medeiros, among numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her celebration of life is Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary in Koloa. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., Rosary at 10 a.m., and service at 10:45 a.m. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Rochelle K. Barretto
Rochelle K. Barretto, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Feb. 23, 2024, at the age of 52. She was born on Nov. 16, 1971, in Lihu‘e. She worked as an Archeologist on Maui.
She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Joseph F. and Lorinda Barretto and maternal grandfather Bernardino Balmidiano.
She is survived by parents Robert and Norma Balmidiano, brothers Garrick Barretto of Texas, Brandon Barretto of California, maternal grandmother Remy Balmidiano, hanai sister Diane Guerriero of Maui, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service was held.

Thomas ‘Tommy’ Chandler
Thomas “Tommy” Chandler passed away on Feb. 28, 2024, in Anahola at the age of 76. He was born on May 5, 1947, in Lihu‘e. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a welder.
He was preceded in death by mother Adeline Chandler and father Kaipo Chandler.
He is survived by wife Wilma Chandler of Anahola, daughter Summer Chandler of Los Angeles County, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to noon. followed by a celebration of life at noon. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Lorraine C. Savaria
Lorraine C. Savaria, of Kekaha, passed away on Feb. 7, 2024, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. She was born on April 27, 1941, in Rhode Island. She was a retired registered nurse.
She was survived by son Michael (Marcia) Buratti of Kapa‘a, daughter Christine Zydervelt of Kekaha, grandchildren Kalani Buratti, Rachel (Austin) Maltby, Emma (Zion) Basque, brothers Raymond Savaria, Donald Savaria, both of Rhode Island, sisters Pauline Marchand of Massachusetts, Marie Savaria of Rhode Island, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Ofelia ‘Punay’ Resinto
Ofelia “Punay” Resinto, 81, of Koloa, passed away peacefully at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 31, 2024. She was born on Nov. 16, 1942, in the Philippines. She retired from the County of Kaua‘i and The Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i.
She was preceded in death by husband Conrado Resinto and daughter Zenaida R. Dizol.
She is survived by children Josie Resinto (Paul Wingler), Eddie (Shan) Resinto, Lolita (Boyet) Galo, Maria Anderson, Paris (Char) Resinto, Reza (Rodel) Minia, Carol (Gregory) Efhan, Mary Ann Resinto, Kevin (Kris) Resinto, Kekua Resinto, 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Koloa Neighborhood Center. Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. to noon, with service at noon and lunch to follow.
