NUKOLI‘I — Hawai‘i musical artists Jerry Santos and Kamuela Kimokeo will share powerful and impactful Hawaiian songs of patriotism that reflect the struggles, hopes, actions and life-changing events of the people of Hawai‘i as they challenged oppressors in their struggle to remain free.
NUKOLI‘I — Hawai‘i musical artists Jerry Santos and Kamuela Kimokeo will share powerful and impactful Hawaiian songs of patriotism that reflect the struggles, hopes, actions and life-changing events of the people of Hawai‘i as they challenged oppressors in their struggle to remain free.
The Santos and Kimokeo programming starts at 5 p.m. on Monday when the Garden Island Arts Council hosts E Kanikapila Kakou at Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort and Spa.
E Kanikapila Kakou (EKK), is open to the public with children age 12 and under being admitted for free. Tickets are $10 for Kaua‘i residents, and $20 for nonresidents and can be purchased online at www.ekk2024.eventbrite.com.
When doors open at 5 p.m., an ‘ukulele circle forms and breaks in time for the main program that starts at 6 p.m. and runs through 8:30 p.m. inside the KBR Jasmine Ballroom.
A no-host bar and food concession is available throughout the evening.
EKK, celebrating its 41st season of heritage Hawaiian music, hula and storytelling, continues on Mondays through March 25. E Kanikapila Kakou means literally, “Let’s play a stringed instrument, together.”
EKK is presented by the Garden Island Arts Council with support from the Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau, the County of Kaua‘i Office of Economic Opportunity, the EKK Patrons, the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, the Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort and Spa and the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority.
