Kudos to the Kaua‘i Community College culinary arts department, including Susu Okada, Marty Amaro, chefs Mark Oyama, Steve Nakata and all those students for “working so hard” to make and sell the many different sausages and bacon, and even the cold smoked salmon that looked like a meal ready-to-eat during the Thursday Garde Manger sale.

Kudos, too, to Rep. Luke Evslin who invited Rep. Nadine Nakamura to join him with John Mizuno, the governor’s coordinator on homelessness at the community town hall where attendees not only got an update on the 2024 legislative session, they got to check out the newest meeting space where Dr. Addison Bulosan was planning a baby lu‘au.
Attendees also had an opportunity to network with people like Mark Perriello, of the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce, and Margaret Sanchez, the interim chancellor for the Kaua‘i Community College for updates and current happenings in their respective organizations.
Council Chair Mel Rapozo was not able to visit with the legislators because he was at an earlier-scheduled town meeting that he could not change the schedule … Rep. Dee Morikawa should’ve scheduled a town hall meeting at the Waimea Town Celebration where there were a lot of people that would’ve taken advantage of the gathering to access their state representative.
OK, this is Read Across America weekend and Sheila Bradley and Elysse Litvach of Kumu’s Cupboard will be out at the Kukui Grove Center on Saturday where every child visiting the reading-themed shopping center gets a free book while supplies last.
The Kaua‘i Society of Artists open their Spring Show exhibit (artists reception comes at the end of the tour, not the beginning, for this show) … check out the surfboard art.
