LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation released the outrigger canoe paddling all-stars on Monday afternoon.
The all-stars included representation from all four participating KIF member schools, including the schools that earned the Central Pacific Bank KIF championship honors and advanced to the state competition, which was held on Feb. 10 in Hilo, Hawai‘i.
KIF representatives at the state meet finished in good form, led by the Waimea High School girls finishing in first place over schools, including the Mid Pacific Institute, Kamehameha School-Kapalama campus and Seabury Hall. Team members of the state champion crew included four members who were voted to the KIF All-Stars.
The state winning crew included Kahiau Makua, Iliau Makua, Aveda Maligro, Ihilani Vea, Tenecee Simao, Ambriel Kanahele and Makalapua Kaukahi.
Waimea’s mixed team earned the CPB/KIF title here, and at the state races, finished in third place below Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama and ‘Iolani School. Waimea was the first public school to place in the mixed race, followed four seconds later by host Hilo High School.
Kapa‘a boys wrapped up the CPB/KIF string of champions. The Warriors advanced to the state race, where they finished in fourth place to become the first public high school to finish the state finals below ‘Iolani, Punahou and Seabury Hall.

All-Stars Mixed: Keanu Niau (Wai Boy), Aveda Maligro (Wai Girl), Logan Laymon (Kap Boy), Julia Pezano (Kap Girl), Jacob Trujillo (Kau Boy), Danielynn Martin-Moke (Kau Girl), Elijah Enoka (IS Boy), Kiani Ortiz (IS Girl).
