LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Filipino Community Council, known for its signature Miss Kaua‘i Filipina scholarship pageant, was joined by the presidents of seven affiliated Filipino organizations at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center on Sunday when the group presented 457 pounds of food to Heidi Padilla of Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i.
LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Filipino Community Council, known for its signature Miss Kaua‘i Filipina scholarship pageant, was joined by the presidents of seven affiliated Filipino organizations at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center on Sunday when the group presented 457 pounds of food to Heidi Padilla of Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i.
Kauai Filipino Community Council (KFCC) President Nancy Apalla said the food collection represented the efforts of the club and affiliated organizations first “Alay Ng Puso” or service project for this year.
The Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i said the total amount of food represents 380 meals to those facing food insecurity.
“Mahalo for all that the KFCC does to support and care for those in need,” Padilla said. “Your kindness and generosity make a difference in the lives of so many. The Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i is grateful for all that you do to make our community a better place. Mahalo nui loa.”
Currently, 1 in 6 people in Hawai‘i face food insecurity, the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i said.
