‘ELE‘ELE — Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) firefighters from the Hanapepe, Waimea and Kalaheo extinguished a structure fire in ‘Ele‘ele on Sunday.
‘ELE‘ELE — Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) firefighters from the Hanapepe, Waimea and Kalaheo extinguished a structure fire in ‘Ele‘ele on Sunday.
According to the KFD, the structure was under construction at the time of the fire and was not occupied. No injuries were reported during the incident, which firefighters were dispatched to Okupu Street in ‘Ele‘ele shortly before 12:45 a.m. on Sunday.
In addition to firefighters, Rescue 3, the Fire Prevention Bureau and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
Preliminary reports indicate that fire personnel arrived at a fully-engulfed structure at approximately 12:50 a.m. First responders extinguished the fire and cleared the scene at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Sunday after putting out remaining hot spots.
The estimated cost to rebuild is $20 million.
The Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) and Kaua‘i Fire Department are conducting a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
