PUHI — The public is invited to a special reading from the Bamboo Ridge Press 45th anniversary issue, “Da Big Book,” on Feb. 29 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Community College library or the Learning Resource Center as signed on the Puhi campus.
Kaua‘i Community College (KCC), in collaboration with Bamboo Ridge Press promises the event to be a unique and exciting opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the rich literary tradition of Hawai‘i.
“We are incredibly proud to host this event and showcase the liberary talent of our staff members and local writers,” said KCC Interim Chancellor Margaret Sanchez. “Bamboo Ridge’s 45th anniversary issue is a testament to the enduring power of storytelling in our community, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to this special reading.”
The reading will feature two KCC staff members — Sharla Foster and Thomas Iannucci —who have been described as accomplished English tutors and published authors featured in the Bamboo Ridge commemorative issue.
Foster will be reading from her story, “Choke Flowers,” while Iannucci will share an excerpt of his “boy” story. Both pieces are written entirely in Pidgin English, helping to celebrate the diverse linguistic heritage of Hawai‘i.
Joining the fun, Kaua‘i writer and poet Jonathan Medeiros will add his own distinct voice to the festivities that may feature surprise appearances by other talented authors from O‘ahu.
During the course of the evening, attendees can expect and experience thought-provoking literature, engaging discussions and opportunities to connect with fellow literature enthusiasts.
