Betty B. Parraga
Betty B. Parraga passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on Nov. 2, 1932, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. She was a Head Custodian at the Kalaheo Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by parents Marcelino and Apolonia Ceballos, husband Antone Parraga Jr., brothers Francisco Ceballos, Lorenzo Ceballos, Clemente Ceballos and sister Sally Edayan.
She is survived by son Anthony “Bully” (Rachelle) Parraga Sr. of Lihu‘e, daughters Antonette Parraga of Koloa, Tina (Larry) Yadao of Kalaheo, Trinette (Wesley) Kaui of Wailua, Elise (Corey) Silva of Kalaheo, grandchildren Kainoa Fernandes, Cherisse (David) Medeiros, Tiffany (Kalani) Salazar, LJ (Whitney) Yadao, Anthony “Tony Boy” (Tita Kapuniai) Parraga Jr., Joshua Parraga, Larissa (Jacob) Brun, Thomas Parraga, Kale Kaui, Kawika (Rachel) Kaui, Coryssa Silva, Casera Silva, 17 great-grandchildren, sisters-in- law Helen Ceballos of Waimea, Marie Ceballos of Kekaha, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, at the Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m., with funeral services to begin at 3 p.m. Burial services to be held at a later date. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Gladys Soyoko Sugihara
Gladys Soyoko Sugihara, 92, of Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i, passed away on Jan. 9, 2024. She was born on June 30, 1931, in Kawaihau, Kaua‘i, to the late Kiyoshi and Tsugiyo Shiraki.
Gladys was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Sugihara, and her brother, Clarence Shiraki.
Gladys attended Kaua‘i High School and later embarked on a career in the travel industry. She worked at Duarte U-Drive and Tours, and at Grayline Kaua‘i for many years as a greeter, where she welcomed visitors to the island.
Gladys is survived by her loving sons Lawton (Naomi) Sugihara, Keith (Lauren) Sugihara. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lindsay (Christopher) Yuh, Kristen Sugihara, Mandy Sugihara, great-grandchildren, Rylee and Cayden Yuh. Gladys is also survived by her sister-in-law, Katherine Shiraki, brothers-in-law Harry Sugihara, Robert Sugihara, as well as many cousins and relatives.
Gladys’s life was also enriched by her special caregivers, Yolanda Yamauchi, Cheryll Agtarap, Alma LaRoque and Marilyn Tingzon.
The family requests no monetary offering (koden) or flowers.
Private services will be held at a later date to honor and remember Gladys Soyoko Sugihara. She will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.

Michael Todd Martin, 62, of Anahola, Kaua‘i passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 25, 2024.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Iwalani Pa Martin, mother Darlene Pa, children Kau‘i (Melvin) Aki, Bolo (Lia) Marshall, Mokihana (Samiuela) Kauvaka, Keikilani (Mapuana) Pa and Troy (Chantel) Pa, grandchildren Joshua (Garrett), Maile (Elijah), Kanoe (Demetrio), Ekolu, SelaLei, Mino‘aka, Ema, Eryn, Lele, Kamuela, Siosiana, Sekope, Samiuela, Nahe, Julia, Saimone, Mililani, Makana, Nainoa, Lavinia, Sean, Kaylen, Dean Jordan, Courtney, Kamalei, Keani, Bulla, great-grandchildren Elianna, Aleyhna Gouveia and Ulu Puppy, brothers Derwin (Julie) Kunewa, Matthew (Rhonda) Martin, David Martin, Kai Martin, Robert Pa, Sam Pa, Kane (Anela) Pa, Mitchell (Kim) Pa and Shilo (Bernie) Pa, sisters Iraina Martin and Angelina (Lealiki) Koli.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Jolene Kehaulani Martin, father Sam Pa, father Frank “Palani” Martin, mother MaryAnn Kunewa, brothers Frank Martin and Joey Martin, sister Lehua Laban and Keala Pa.
Visitation and Service will be held Feb. 23, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kapa‘a from 9 to 11 a.m. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
