KIHEI, Maui — Island School senior Chloe Inouye won a gold medal and Kaua‘i High School sophomore Brandon Lin earned two silver medals at the K. Mark Takai Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association swimming and diving championship that wrapped up on Saturday at Kihei Aquatics Center.
KIHEI, Maui — Island School senior Chloe Inouye won a gold medal and Kaua‘i High School sophomore Brandon Lin earned two silver medals at the K. Mark Takai Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association swimming and diving championship that wrapped up on Saturday at Kihei Aquatics Center.
The individual swims by Inouye and Lin powered the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation effort that saw Island School wahine finishing the tournament in ninth place with seven points. The Kaua‘i High School boys team tied with Kalaheo High School of the O‘ahu Interscholastic Federation for seventh place. Each school finished with nine points.
Inouye’s gold medal swim came in the 100 yard breaststroke, where she battled Sala Yasumi of Kaiser High School through the preliminary round. In the finals of the event, Inouye churned the waters to touch the wall at 1 minute, 4.23 seconds, or 0.01 second ahead of Yasumi.
She also finished in fifth place in the 50 yard freestyle on a 24.65-second swim, bettering her preliminary swim of 24.71.
Lin was part of the Kaua‘i boys 200 yard medley relay team, which finished in seventh place on a total swim of 1:43.97 in the event taken by ‘Iolani School in a 1:33.33 swim.
Using the event as a warmup, Lin moved to the 200 individual medley, where he finished second on a 1:56.43 swim, just 0.14 second faster than Punahou School’s Parker Muench, who finished in third on a 1:56.43 touch.
Lin’s second silver medal swim took place in the 100 breaststroke, where he was beat by Tristan A. Regula of Kalaheo High School by just 0.52 second after touching the wall on a 57.38 swim. Lin followed at 57.90.
Kaua‘i High School senior Talen Koerte was also a part of the medal round 200 medley relay team. He broke out individually to finish in fifth place in the 100 backstroke, where he touched at 53.95, bettering his preliminary swim of 54.70. Top swimmer in the event belonged to Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama’s Connor Seminavage, who set the pace with a 50.04 finish.
