LIHU‘E — Kapa‘a High School took a 72-43 win over Island School and Kaua‘i dropped the Menehune during the final regular season boys basketball games at Bernice Hundley gym and Kaua‘i High School.
“It’s over,” said Kaua‘i High School athletic trainer Kevin Cadiente on Saturday night when he and Kapa‘a High School trainer Chris Ang were at the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market. “Kapa‘a is the 2024 Central Pacific Bank Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys basketball champions. There won’t be any playoffs.”
Over at the Bernice Hundley, the Warriors — KIF first round title holder — soared to its win behind double-digit scoring through four quarters of play.
Keaka Kauhane topped the Warriors’ scoring roster that saw five Kapa‘a players finish with double-digit scoring, including Kauhane who ended the night with a game-high 21 points. Tristen Scully had 16 points and Kelson Soares-Yasay contributed 11 points. Austin Green and Reimel Camacho rounded out the Warrior scoring leaders with 10 points each.
On the Voyagers bench, Garrett Hadley had 14 points. Orion Magaoay finished with 11 points, including a trio of 3-balls. Zach Ing finished with five marks, and Matthew Dobashi and Dylan Watanabe each contributed four points.
With the CPB KIF boys basketball crown, the Kapa‘a Warriors advance to the 2024 Heide &Cook Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II boys basketball championships on O‘ahu from Feb. 22-24.
