The real Chinese New Year falls on Saturday (the Chinese lions are coming out at 10 a.m. at the Kukui Grove Center!). The Shops at Kukui‘ula is moving its Chinese New Year festivities to Feb. 16 when it combines the Chinese New Year with its monthly Flavors of Kukui‘ula … firecrackers and lions start at 5 p.m.
Susan Pittman of Clayworks at Kilohana said Souper Sunday is back after not being available because of COVID-19. You get a handmade soup bowl, and chili and rice, or vegetable soup for a donation that benefits the Lihu‘e Lutheran Church Mobile Munchies Program … just gotta make sure you get yours before 12:30 p.m. (the television kickoff for the Super Bowl is when?).
And don’t forget … it’s Malasada Tuesday, too. Ash Wednesday comes on the same day as the Valentine’s dance, and Kapa‘a Lions Club presenting roses to residents at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (they’re hosting a community health and wellness resource fair this Saturday, too, from 9 a.m. to noon).
