HONOLULU — Kapa‘a High School blew out Hawai‘i Baptist Academy 64-32 on Wednesday night to advance to the semifinals of the Heide & Cook Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II girls championship on O‘ahu.
HONOLULU — Kapa‘a High School blew out Hawai‘i Baptist Academy 64-32 on Wednesday night to advance to the semifinals of the Heide & Cook Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II girls championship on O‘ahu.
The Lady Warriors’ tall post Olivia Malafu pocketed 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the charge where Kapa‘a outscored HBA in three of the four regulation quarters. Trinity Guillen topped all players with 19 rebounds for the defending Division II champions.
Warrior guard Skylyn Fagarang helped the Kapa‘a scoring with 19 points. Three other Kapa‘a players — Guillen, Taira Samiano, and Denise Alfonso — each had eight points in the win.
During the Thursday Division II semifinals, Kapa‘a will tip off against Hanalani, their opponent last year for the DII championship, and a 63-28 winner over McKinley High School during quarterfinal play on Wednesday. The start is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kalani High School on O‘ahu.
Maryknoll School, the DII No. 2 seed, will face No. 3 seed Kamehameha School-Hawai‘i in the opening match of the Division II semifinals.
