Kapa‘a High School beat the Division II top seed Kaua‘i High School to claim third place at the Motiv8 Foundation Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II girls soccer championships on Saturday at Waipio Soccer Complex on O‘ahu.
Scoring two goals in the first half, Kapa‘a held Kaua‘i to no response in the second half to claim the 2-0 victory. Julia Durocher opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Kailee-Ann Baltazar, who was named to the HHSAA DII All-Tournament Team with teammate Sienna Yamashita, iced the victory in the 30th minute.
Both the Warriors and Red Raiders made it to the semifinals of the DII title chase, but were shut out in the semifinals on Friday.
Kapa‘a, advancing after upsetting No. 3 seed Kalani High School during the quarterfinals, fell 1-0 to Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i who eventually won the DII championship after defeating PAC-5 in a penalty kickoff.
PAC-5 shut down Kaua‘i High School 3-0 in the Friday semifinals.
Waimea High School, the third Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation representative in the Division II championships, was eliminated on Friday after dropping to Kalani High School, 2-1.
Kai‘ulani Nshigaya scored both goals for Kalani. Kendra Knapp had the Waimea response.
The boys soccer competition, the Motiv8 Foundation HHSAA Division II soccer state championships starts on Thursday and continues through Saturday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on O‘ahu.
Island School boys soccer, the Central Pacific Bank KIF champions, earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The Voyagers open play on Thursday when they meet the Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy starting at 1 p.m.
The Kamehameha School-Hawai‘i is the DII top seed, followed by PAC-5 as the No. 2 seed. Seabury Hall is the No. 4 seed.
