WAILUA — A beat-up section of a bike and pedestrian path is being targeted for a makeover next month.
WAILUA — A beat-up section of a bike and pedestrian path is being targeted for a makeover next month.
Construction work is scheduled to begin on Feb. 5 to repair and realign a segment of the path, known as Ke Ala Hele Makalae, which runs along Kaha Lani Resort in Wailua. The project cost is estimated at $178,000.
“The scope of the work consists of replacing the eroded and damaged section of the multi-use path fronting Kaha Lani Resort and realigning a new segment further mauka — while preserving the area’s coastal scenery,” the County of Kaua‘i Department of Parks &Recreation said on Friday.
The targeted stretch of path will be closed off for the construction period, which is expected to run through Feb. 23 assuming no weather delays. The general public is advised to avoid the segment of path until work is completed.
The damaged section of the path was caused by erosion stemming from a heavy rain event from March 27-28, 2020. Ka‘iwa Construction Inc. of Kilauea is the contractor for the project.
