WAILUA — The Central Pacific Bank Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation paddling championships will take place at the Wailua River on Saturday to wrap up the KIF paddling season, which started in December with the long distance regattas at Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor. The first races start at 9 a.m.
At stake are the championships of the six divisions, including the junior varsity boys, girls, and mixed teams, and the varsity boys, girls and mixed teams. Varsity wins earn eligibility to advance to the state 2024 Hawaiian Airlines Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association canoe paddling championships on Feb. 10 at Hilo Bay on the Big Island.
During the varsity competitions at the Jan. 20 regatta, Waimea High School earned 15 points for its first placements in the varsity girls and varsity mixed divisions.
Kapa‘a High School, earning a first finish in the varsity boys competition finished the day with 11 points. Island School rounds out the scoring leaderboard by earning 10 points after finishing with second place slots in the varsity girls and varsity mixed races, and a fourth finish in varsity boys.
