LIHU‘E — A smash-and-grab burglary at Macy’s resulted in the loss of approximately $20,000 in jewelry on early Monday morning.
Kauai Police Department (KPD) personnel responded to the scene at approximately 3:50 a.m. after a glass break alarm went off at the store, which is located on Kaumuali‘i Highway at Kukui Grove Center.
“Upon arrival, officers found that the west entrance doors and multiple jewelry display cases were shattered,” the KPD said on Monday. “No injuries were reported. According to preliminary reports … approximately $20,000 in jewelry was reported as stolen. KPD detectives are actively investigating the case.”

The Macy’s store in Lihu‘e is one of five targeted for closure this year. The other stores are Macy’s Ballston in Arlington, Virginia, Macy’s Bay Fair in San Leandro, California, Macy’s Simi Valley Town Center in Simi Valley, California, and Macy’s Governor’s Square in Tallahassee, Florida. The store closures were announced by the retailer last week.
