Roadwork scheduled on Kaua‘i
LIHU‘E — A number of road-related projects are scheduled in the upcoming week with most of the work taking place on the east and north sides of Kaua‘i, the Hawaii Department of Transportation said in its weekly update.

ARC donation event stronger than expected
AHUKINI — The blustery wind and showers hitting the Kaua‘i Resource Center on Friday did little to slow traffic of contributors to The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) donation event.

Local author, Keith Smith, who was born in Pepeekeo, Hawai‘i, and raised in the plantation town of Kilauea, Kaua‘i, during the 1950s and 1960s, where his father, Ernest Smith, was Kilauea Plantation manager, has recently published his second book titled “Plantation Stories.”
CRITTER: Spearfishing can protect Kaua‘i coral reefs
For thousands of years butterfly fish have protected our coral reefs by feeding on dead and dying corals, which makes room for new corals to grow. The Hawaiian name for many of the butterfly fish species is kikakapu, which means “forbidden.”
