KAPA‘A — Kapa‘a High School girls basketball player Taira Samiano poured in 24 points on Monday to lead a Lady Warriors sweep over Kaua‘i High School during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation games played at Bernice Hundley Gym.
The Warriors junior varsity squad were 10 points better than the Red Raiders, 27-17, sparked by Kehakeha Lawhead leading the charge with seven points and Chloe Woodward lending six points.
Kaua‘i High School JV saw Naveah Eclipse take the lead with four points and Kamalei Taylan lending a 3-ball in the effort.
On the varsity floor, where the Lady Warriors honored five Kaua‘i High School senior players with lei and gifts, Samiano got the audience in tune by dropping a trey on her first score of the night.
Overall, Samiano finished with a quartet of treys toward her game-high 24 points which paced the Kapa‘a team that limited Red Raiders center, Lailah Kalani, to just a single digit in the contest.
Joining Samiano, Skylyn Fagarang launched a trio of 3-balls toward her total 16 points. Denise Alfonoso added 14 points in addition to grabbing numerous rebounds.
Olivia Malafu, who ended the night as the outside post, finished in a scoring tie with Trinity Guillen, each tucking in 10 points apiece.
On the Red Raiders court, Jazlyn Corpuz came alive in the second half by scoring 12 of her night’s production of 17 points, including a trio of treys.
Cheyley Jacobs followed with seven points, including a pair of 3-balls and everything dropping in the first half.
Sophia Badua rounded out the scoring leaders for Kaua‘i High School with five points, including a last quarter 3-ball.
With the win, Kapa‘a picks up its ninth consecutive win while suffering no losses with three more games on its season calendar.
