LIHU‘E — Kauai High School sophomore Brandon Lin topped the list of qualifiers for the state meet during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation qualifying swim meet held at the YMCA pool with the help of Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics on Saturday.
Lin earned qualifying times as part of two relay teams that surpassed the qualifying standards, and two individual honors, including the 200 individual medley where he touched the wall at 2 minutes, 2.23 seconds for first place honors in the event. Lin’s second individual qualifying swim came in the 100 breaststroke, where he captured another first place on a 1:01.46 swim.
Lin’s other qualifying swims included the 200 medley relay where he was the third leg swimmer that stopped the clocks at 1:45.61. Lin had the opening leg of the 200 freestyle relay team that earned qualification on a 1:37.15.
Joining him on the relay qualifications, Talen Koerte finished the day with three qualifying swims, including the two relay events, and an individual qualifying swim where he finished first in the 100 butterfly by breaking the minute mark and stopping the clocks at 56.68.
Kaua‘i High School sophomore Liam Juvan and freshman Kohlton Sanchez joined Juvan and Koerte on the qualifying relay teams.
On the girls side of the pool, Island School senior Chloe Inouye earned two individual qualifying swims in the four events she participated in, the first in the 200 individual medley, where she finished first on a 2:18.84 swim, and the other in the 100 breaststroke where she touched the wall first on a 1:11.58 swim.
The third KIF qualifying meet takes place on Saturday. The first swimmers hit the water at 8 a.m.
The KIF Championship Meet takes place on Jan. 27. The K. Mark Takai Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association 2024 Swimming & Diving Championships take place on Maui at Kihei Aquatic Center on Feb. 9-10.
