LIHU‘E — The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center’s monthly donation event will be on-site at the Kaua‘i Resource Center on Friday.
The event, which is coordinated through the County of Kauai’s Solid Waste Division, will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Signs indicating the event at the resource center, located adjacent to the Reynolds HI5 recycling center and the Lihu‘e Refuse Transfer station, will be displayed along Ahukini Road to help guide contributors.
Residents, businesses and other organizations can bring in unwanted or unneeded items for reuse. These items can include clothing, small furniture, children’s toys, books and shoes. Clothing and textiles do not need to be in good condition — torn or stained clothing will be accepted.
Items not accepted include eWaste, chemicals, appliances and broken items.
The Solid Waste Division encourages people to check with their local thrift stores to see if the stores are capable of taking the contributions before bringing the items to the ARC donation event.
The ARC also offers pickup services to thrift stores and businesses.
Pickup services can be arranged by calling 808-241-4336. Individuals who would like home pick-up service can call the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 808-335-6105 or RP’s Random Closet at 808-346-0020.
The county’s announcement of the ARC donation event notes that RP’s Random Closet is a for-profit agency.
While on-site, due to health and safety concerns because of heavy equipment in the area, donors are requested to remain in their vehicles to reduce the chance of injury to customers unloading heavy items.
A request for receipt of donated items can be requested while items are being unloaded.
Donated items represent material that, if not donated, would eventually end up at the county’s landfill.
