LIHU‘E — A Koloa man, who was wanted by the Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) for allegedly assaulting a police officer on Thursday, was arrested without incident on Saturday.
LIHU‘E — A Koloa man, who was wanted by the Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) for allegedly assaulting a police officer on Thursday, was arrested without incident on Saturday.
Travis Bonachita, 24, of Koloa turned himself in at approximately noon on Saturday and was arrested on the following offenses based on a warrant. The charges included attempted assault in the first degree, prohibited place to keep pistol or revolver, carrying loaded firearm on highway, ownership possession prohibited and criminal property damage in the first degree.
Bonachita is being held at the KPD cellblock with bail set at $45,000, according to the police department.
“We would like to thank the community for their vigilance and assistance in apprehending Bonachita peacefully,” said Kennison Nagahisa, Acting Captain of KPD’s Investigative Services Bureau, in a statement.
The incident took place early Thursday morning when KPD officers were attempting to arrest Bonachita when he allegedly assaulted an officer and fled the scene in a vehicle at Waila‘au Road and Ala Kinoiki Road in Koloa.
Bonachita became sought in connection with the assault, and was considered dangerous with the public cautioned about not approaching the individual, who is described as weighing about 190 pounds and is 5 feet, 8 inches in height.
