The day that was windy, blustery, and cold (!!!) was also Amelia Earhart Day (did you know that Amelia was a Zontian?). It was the actual Human Trafficking Prevention Day, and according to Brennecke’s General Manager Hoku Gordines (one of his daughters swims for Kaua‘i High School), Brennecke’s opened its doors on Jan. 11, 1984, in Po‘ipu … congratulations to Bob and Christine French!
Congratulations, too, to Dallas Correa and his family on accepting the catching coordinator position with the Milwauke Brewers baseball team … thank goodness for texts that link you to social media links.
Mahalo to Crystal Caday-Bargayo (in adding to working for Permanently Affordable Living Hawai‘i, Crystal is an East Kaua‘i Lion — they’re collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids on Jan. 20!) who said the East Kaua‘i Lions Club provided support awards to Toys for Tots, the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank and the Filipino teachers who came to Kaua‘i to work during the EK Lions Christmas party at the Hilton Garden Inn. The mention of the Filipino teachers perked up the ears of Nareit Foundation Executive Director Gladys Quinto Marrone, who said she heard about the teachers, but didn’t bother taking it further. Mahalo, Nareit Foundation on the generous award to PAL Hawai‘i that will help all those Kekaha residents.
