LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a High School Lady Warriors were victorious on two fronts during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls basketball games waged against Kaua‘i High School at the Red Raiders’ new gymnasium on Monday night.
LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a High School Lady Warriors were victorious on two fronts during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls basketball games waged against Kaua‘i High School at the Red Raiders’ new gymnasium on Monday night.
Fueled by Olivia Malafu netting a game-high 25 points over the 32-minute game span, the varsity Lady Warriors locked up an 83-49 victory in a contest where the Warriors maintained a comfortable lead throughout to open the KIF second round.
On the junior varsity courts, Kapa‘a Darla Squire and Aedyn Umalla each dropped six points, and Chloe Woodward and Ginger Nunez each added five marks to lead the Lady Warriors to a 29-21 win over the Red Raiders, who broke their previous season high-point mark of 19 points.
Taylor Duran led the Red Raiders with 13 points, including a pair from outside the 3-point arc.
On the varsity floor, where the Kapa‘a starting five had ample time to recover on the bench, Skylyn Fagarang stoked the audience early by dropping a trio of long distance bombs en route to 14 points. Taira Samiano added 11 points, including one 3-ball in the second stanza.
Jazlyn Corpuz led the Red Raiders with 14 points, including a pair of treys, and center Lailah Kalani finished with nine marks.
The Kapa‘a Warriors next host Waimea High School on Wednesday at Bernice Hundley gym when the JV contest tips off at 5:30 p.m.
