What a treat after being stuck in traffic for nearly an hour because the state was cutting grass near the Kaua‘i Humane Society. That stoppage created a late for appointment, but shades of the Kilauea Social Club, the Po‘ipu ‘Ukulele ‘Ohana (members had logo-ed caps, and even a T-shirt!) was going full blast at one of the Po‘ipu Beach Park pavilions … great job, kupuna!

Kudos, Hoku Gordines (his daughter is a swimmer with Kaua‘i High School) of Brennecke’s on the 40th anniversary of the enterprise (Brennecke’s is bigger than just a restaurant!) started by Bob and Christine French in January 40 years ago.
Since then, the French ‘ohana have survived two hurricanes, and the COVID-19 pandemic to be able to celebrate 40 years, and the turning over of the enterprise management to a new generation of French … check out their specials, as well as the Ryan Moura special Spam musubi at the Deli (Rochelle Ballard, the resident surf pro at Nukumoi, got lunch at the deli where Ryan came over from the Puka Dog concession (Christine said there normally is a line of diners waiting to consume the Puka Dog before they get to the beach) to help. And, it was only the first day of school after winter break.
Debbie Yanagihara coordinated the latest Local Treasures Marketplace on the first Sunday of the month at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center. She said the next marketplace is taking place on Feb. 4. She’s looking for food vendors, and craft vendors, especially those who have garage sale type items for flea markets and swap meets.
